    There is a better bookshop in Marlow (The Marlow Bookshop), there is a better card shop (Mayther), there are several alternative newsagents, and you will find a bigger range of confectionery at either Waitrose of Sainsbury’s. My conclusion is that WH Smith survives because it’s the only shop which sells basic stationery and whilst you’re in there buying that, you’ll pick up a book, magazine or some sweets.
